Dialetic Behavioral Therapy

Acceptance & Change, Together

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

“Dialectical” describes a balance between acceptance and change — the idea that two seemingly opposite truths can both be valid at once.

What DBT Means

DBT holds two things at once: you are doing the best you can, and you need to do better, try harder, and be more motivated to change. That dialectic — acceptance alongside change — is what gives the approach its name.

Sessions are organized around four skill areas that build on one another, moving from steadying intense emotion in the moment to reshaping the relationships and habits around it.
